Memorial bell named after Alexei Leonov installed at church in the Vladimir region

A memorial bell has been installed in the bell tower of St Andrew’s Church in the Vladimir region in honour of Alexei Leonov who was a well-known test pilot and cosmonaut, as well as a member of the Advisory Board of Baring Vostok. The bell installation ceremony took place on Wednesday, July 15th, and was timed to coincide with the 45th anniversary of the Apollo-Soyuz space mission.

At 1,300 kilograms, the bell named after Alexei Leonov became the largest of the nine bells at the church. All of the bells at St Andrew’s Church bear the names of late cosmonauts. In his lifetime, Alexei Leonov actively participated in the restoration of St Andrew’s Church, which is located near the place where Yuri Gagarin lost his life. The interior design of the church also includes elements designed by Leonov.
